Learn Photoshop for Photographers with classroom exercises

This course is for beginners. You do not need any previous knowledge of Photoshop, photography or design. We will start right at the beginning and work our way through step by step. 
This is a course that teaches you how to edit your digital images and produce creative images. It is intended for photographers who wish to take the editing of their images to the next level using industry-standard software. Adobe Photoshop will be the photo editing software used in this course to editing original images and for producing creative effects to achieve maximum impact. Students will discover the scope of creative possibilities offered by Photoshop.

Sessions

Introduction to Photoshop

30 minutes

This section covers a little of the history of photoshop and why it is considered a digital darkroom.

 
The program User Interface and Tools inc. Keyboard Shortcuts.

30 minutes

In this session, we go through the interface and how it works. we will also be looking at the different workspaces available and how to make your own.

 
Cropping, resizing and Rotating images

30 minutes

In this session we go through how to Cropping, resizing and Rotating images for both an entire project or an image within a project. we will also cover things to consider when resizing or cropping. This section will use sample images and comes with an assignment.

 
Adjusting your images. Exposure and Colour

45 minutes

In this session, we go through the different adjustment types and how they work. we will also look at adjustment layers and how they can be used together. this session will use sample images and have a classroom assignment.

 
The power of Layers for photography.

45 minutes

In this session, we go through why layers are so important and how you can use them. We will also go through the layer interface in more detail and blending options. This session will use sample images and have a classroom assignment.

 
How to make Selecting and masking

1 hour

In this session, we go through different selection tools and how they work. we will also cover masking and how it is a less destructive option.
This session will use sample images and have a classroom assignment.

 
Image retouching tools for photography

1 hour

In this session, we go through different tools that can be used to fix spots, scratches and dust in images. We will go through how each one works and when to use each one. This session will use sample images and have a classroom assignment.

 
Editing RAW images in Camera Raw mode for extra control

30 minutes

In this session, we go through how to use camera raw and why it is so important. we will look at the difference between file formats.
This session will use sample images and have a classroom assignment.

 
Recap our day. and classroom assignments.

30 minutes

In this session, we can go over past sessions if needed and go through the classroom exercises.

 
What To Bring

Participants have to bring a laptop with a current version of photoshop.

Completing this course will contribute six hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 2.1.2, 2.6.2, 3.4.2, 4.2.2 6.2.2, from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
